Harry

Harry Leyland was recently honored by Butler Catholic School for his 40 years of service as basketball coach. No one can question his dedication to Butler Catholic and the community in general.

For those who played for him, there was no lack of memorable moments....

-Sure, we sometimes dreaded practice for fear of ending up with freshly chewed Red Man in our hair because we didn't break the defense down quick enough....

-Sure, we probably shot more foul shots than any elementary school team in history as no water break was ever without "MAKE FIVE, GET A DRINK" (on top of regular foul shooting drills). If only Ron Everhart or Jaime Dixon did the same thing with their players...

-Sure, some of us are still trying to figure out why the often screamed phrase "GROW SOME HAIR ON YOUR ASS" was something you should to strive to do (Seriously, who wants hair on their ass?).....

But then you would see him singing in the church choir at St. Michael's or laughing while washing dishes at a Church fish dinner and almost fall over in shock. Maybe, just maybe, the tough guy coach was an act after all....

And then basketball season started again and that first water break would be followed by the familiar scream of "PRESSBREAKER!"

Maybe not.

The perfect balance.

Thanks for everything, Harry.
