Your 2010 World Series Champs....The Florida Marlins!

Via MLB Trade Rumors:

The Marlins signed first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz to a minor league deal, according to Baseball America's Matt Eddy.  Mientkiewicz didn't play much in '09, as he went down for shoulder surgery in April.

Who cares you say? Well then, you clearly don't know the legend of Dougie M. Grit, leadership, and most of all victories follow him wherever he goes......

-He caught the final out of the Red Sox's curse-breaking 2004 World Series victory. Then refused for the longest time to give the ball to the team or Baseball Hall of Fame. He eventually relented.

-He once challenged Randy Johnson to a fight because Randy Johnson had the audacity to be annoyed with his constant stepping out of the batters box.

-He was such a leader in the Pirates clubhouse that they overcame tremendous odds to make the 2008 playoffs through the sheer will of his character.

Oh wait, that last one didn't happen. Sorry. I got caught up in the legend. However, we were and still are reminded of this tremendous leadership skills and all around grit by Post-Gazette beat writer Dejan Kovacevic any chance he gets (Remember with that archive that Doug was not on the team in 2009).

So, when the Marlins come out of nowhere to win the World Series this year and Mientkiewicz catches that final ball, remember where you heard it first.

  1. If Dejan K ever read that, he would probably deny that he was over the top about Doug. He absolutely was over the top about Doug. It was comical. Dejan K can not handle criticism.

  2. Did you ever notice that Dejan was also obsessed with Freddy and Jack? The three amigos. It's nice to have inside sources I bet, but it also makes it hard to tell the truth about them. DK loved Jack and Fred. It's not like the Pirates won with those two.
